Alright, I didn’t (obviously) but I could have. This past Friday morning I had a dentist appointment to get my crown put on and then we were going to go get me a new military ID (cause it expired, not cause I lost it). As we’re nearing downtown the car starts sputtering and we pull over thinking, WTF? Look under the hood and all is clear… OK? Freak occurrence? We start down the road again noting a funny smell and it sputters again so we pull over. This time I look over and smoke is coming out from behind Joshua’s seat, and mine. Now seriously, WTF?
So we get out and open the trunk and WOOOSH big plume of black smoke. What happened? The battery was on FIRE! Somehow the mount had broken and now both the carpet and battery were melting away. Now, if we hadn’t had caught it as early as we did we’d have had some serious issue cause the battery could have blew, as in.. KABOOM, no more Josh or Keesh.
I called to cancel my appointment and Josh called the place we bought the car from. They sent out their mechanic and we waited for a tow truck (the mechanic actually wanted Josh to drive the car to the shop. Uh, are you kidding me?). We were both starving so we took a walk.
Problem with that is: I was wearing heels. Brand new ones at that. And leather. By the time we had walked to get food and back my feet had big ol blisters. We ate and waited for the tow truck to arrive and then went to the shop. And since we were less than 10 blocks from the house we walked home. I took my shoes off. The scalding hot cement was better than wearing the shoes that were slicing into my blisters. (Josh kept offering to piggy back me home but seriously? No. I’m a little big for you to be doing that. But I love you for offering.)
It took the shop a few hours to fix the issue and remount a new battery and the place we bought the car from covered all the costs. We did end up going to get my new ID and we went to see Thor (which I enjoyed) at the theater ‘cross from the NEX. And most of my time that day was spent trying not to just yell ow every time I moved my feet. They really did hurt badly enough that when I put them in water (when we first got home) to wash them off I was actually crying.
Saturday they were bright red still and I could only walk on certain bits of my feet so I spent most of the day in bed sleeping so my body could repair itself. When I did get up and move around I had to hobble about. Sunday after even more sleep they felt much better, though they’re still tender I can walk on them now without looking like a cripple. Thank you Band-Aid for your Blister patches, they are awesome. We ended up going grocery shopping when I woke up and then rode our bikes to the dollar store to get some stuff to play with at the park, which we did for an hour or so. Then it was home for some turkey sloppy joes, scalloped potatoes, and green beans, which was freakin delicious.
Tonight is tilapia, bicolor corn, and more green beans (before I have to throw them out >_< ).
